From Karen (Founder):
I have always had a love of art. I spent my summers on my best friends family sculpture gallery and foundry, and was lucky enough to have fantastic and renowned artists as family friends. I learned at an early age what kind of aesthetic I found pleasing, and was always thrilled to share my love of art with people who had not been exposed to it in the way I had; the wonderment I saw in peoples eyes who had not been immersed in it, it was so rewarding.
I created FatArt to have a safe space on tumblr to find artistic images featuring fat bodies without having to dig though the tag search which could be triggering in many different ways. I had no idea it would resonate with so many people. It was my first step into feminism and fat acceptance without really knowing much about either at the time. I have met some wonderful people through this, and since then have learned so much about acceptance and action.

Chrystal:
In a past life I was a lion, in the next life I’ll be a Sailor Scout, but for now I’m a fat mamma with a love for tea and various forms of art and that is just as good.

Nadine:
“My name is Nadine, you can call me Deenie unless you piss me off… then just call me ‘one who is so much greater than I’. I do things, I like stuff… I collect many things, and I like to eat a lot of stuff. I draw sometimes. I have a tug-of-war relationship with my body— on Tuesdays I treat it like a temple, and on Saturdays I treat it like a whore. I’m fat and accepting of it. I’m black but that’s not all.”
